Welcome to God's Loving Church
St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church is a church devoted to Christian education, spiritual development and growth, family, and fulfilling the will of God according to His word. We worship and reverence God through studying and living God's word through worship, evangelism, service, giving, fellowship and even fun!
We holistically believe in the Holy Writ, life’s only guidebook before the return of Christ.
Whatever your age, gender or race, there is a special place for you at St. Paul. We offer members a chance to become a part of something greater, to receive the grace of God, and to grow their love for God.
Visit us this Sunday at 11:00 A.M.; you are always welcome!
Rev. Antwon M. Funches, Sr.
Rev. Antwon Maurice Funches, Sr. is the fifth and final child born to Frank and Katie Funches in Chicago, IL. In the early 80s, the Funches family joined “The” Friendship Baptist Church of the great west side of Chicago under the leadership of the late Dr. Shelvin Jerome Hall.
It was under the leadership of Dr. Hall that Rev. Funches received and accepted his calling, and was licensed to preach the Gospel at the age of 16. It was also at Friendship where his training to pastor began, as he served in many capacities: Ushers Ministry, Sunday School Instructor, Youth Director and Pastor, Minister of Music, and Evangelism Director. To further prepare for his journey in the preaching ministry, Rev. Funches has studied at the American Baptist College and the Moody Bible Institute.
In 2008, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Rev. Funches moved his family’s membership and servitude to the Lilydale First Baptist Church of the proud south side of Chicago, IL under the very capable leadership of Dr. Alvin Love. At Lilydale, Rev. Funches served as an Associate, Men’s Ministry Instructor, Bible Study Instructor, and Minister of the The B.R.I.D.G.E. Ministry (Young Adults).
On August 20, 2016, Rev. Funches was elected and called to serve as Pastor of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Freeport, IL. On Sunday, October 23, 2016, he was officially installed as the 15th Pastor of St. Paul M.B.C.!
Rev. Funches is a family man and believes ministry starts at home. He is married to his childhood sweetheart and wife of 19 years, Allison Nicole (Simpson). Together, they are the proud parents of five children: son, Aaron Nathaniel (Jaquiese) (25), daughter, Christian JaLon (23), son, Anthony Malachi (19), daughter, Kennedy Marice-Nicole (15), and son, Antwon Maurice, Jr. aka “A.J.” (12). They are also the proud grandparents to two granddaughters: Aaryn Naomi (4) and Aarion Nicole (3), and one grandson, Jaxson Chandler (1).
Since becoming a part of the Freeport community, Pastor Funches has become a pillar and a voice of reason, advocating for justice, egalitarianism, and quality education and housing in this community. He formerly served as a board member of the FSD 145 School District and currently serves as Vice President of the Black Minister's Alliance of Freeport, a board member of Amity Daycare & Learning Center, and Community Liaison to the City Manager of Freeport.
Rev. Frank Bullock
Rev Bullock was ordained into the ministry under the leadership of Rev. Peter Williams. Rev. Bullock is a historian of God’s Word; it is fitting that his office is now the home of St. Paul’s artifacts and historical information. In this room Rev. Bullock studied scriptures and prepared sermons. Today, Rev. Bullock continues to be a faithful member of St. Paul as the Associate Minister and a Sunday School Teacher.
Min. Connie Taylor
On September 14, 2014 Minister Taylor publically accepted the call to proclaim God’s Word through preaching. She preached her first sermon on January 18th, 2015, at St. Paul MBC and was licensed by Rev. Demond Newburn as a minister of the Gospel. Other ministry involvement includes Trustee, Music, and Christian Education ministries.
